Fodeba Keita was a guiding force in the evolution of Guinean arts and music. An writer, composer, dramatist, and choreographer, Keita became a member of with Kante Facely to create the original Guinean dance troupe, Ballets Africains. Among the initial ensembles to feature the rhythms from the djembe, the troupe became the nationwide ballet business after Guinea attained self-reliance in 1958.
