MEDICAL was shaped by Scott Jacks (keyboards) and Dave Coupland (drums) in 1982. They added Bruce Goertzen as their guitarist and Jamey Koch on bass to comprehensive the initial lineup. The group started playing their indigenous Vancouver, BC, early another year. They started working with several vocalists, eventually employing on Chris Catalano.
