Years since Carcass’ Swan Music in 1996, founding guitarist Expenses Steer results with Firebird in late 2000, releasing a self-titled debut. Famous for his pioneering attempts in grindcore and intense metal, Steer requires a different path with Firebird, a blues-based three-piece with origins in past due-’60s and early-’70s rock and roll. Leo Smee of sludge-rockers Cathedral grips bass, and even though he performed for the group’s debut, drummer Ludwig Witt of Religious Beggars was changed by Tom Berman after Witt got difficulty managing two rings. Steer also measures to leading like a vocalist, showing a considerable capability that fits flawlessly with Firebird’s jam-rock ambitions.
