Filament is made up of samplist Sachiko M. and guitarist/turntablist Otomo Yoshihide. The set produced Filament in 1997 for the functionality in Switzerland. A calendar year later, they produced their first documenting and toured European countries. Filament can be involved generally with “plunderphonics” — appropriating sampled materials from pre-existing recordings, after that manipulating and recontextualizing them in a variety of ways. Yoshihide was created in 1959; for eight years from 1990 his primary performance device was Ground No, another sample-based outfit. He’s also constructed for film in Japan and Hong Kong. Sachiko was also an associate of Ground No, and provides performed using the Japanese/French device Les Sculpteurs de Vinyl fabric. In 1997, with Haco and Yagi Michiyo, she produced the all-female music group Hoahio.
