Excited with the success of neighboring steel upstarts Queensrÿche, vocalist Ted Pilot, guitarist Adam Byrd, and drummer Ken Mary shaped Fifth Angel in Bellevue, WA, in 1984. Drafting second guitarist Ed Archer and bassist John Macko, they ultimately agreed upon to the Shrapnel label and released an eponymous debut in 1986 — its bombastic traditional steel earning widespread acceptance within the steel community.
