Ferdinand Hérold

Herold composed in a number of genres including opera, comique, opera, lyric vocal items and tunes, orcehstral piano concertos, chamber music and piano music. His forte became, after an extended struggle with poor librettos, opera. He analyzed in the Paris Conservatory with Adam, Kreutzer, Catel, and Mehul. Mehul’s impact dominated the compositions of Herold. His 1st opera was created and performed in Italy in 1814 but fulfilled with littel achievement due to the libretto. He was just twenty three years of age. It required Herold another twelve years (at age 35) to compose not just a effective opera but a triumphantly effective opera “Marie.” He acceeded to a posture using the Theatre-Italien in Paris, and afterwards became a performing trainer there. He also constructed two well received ballets, “La somnambule,” and “La fille mal gardee.” Herold is most beneficial remembered for just two well-known operas. “Zampa, ou La fiancee de marbre” originated with complete theatrical results and supplied a venue to show the brilliance from the tenor Chollet. “Le pre aux clercs” was Herold’s reflective and cognizant treatment of a questionable subject.
