Biography
Fee Waybill (nee John Waldo) rose to popularity, or in least notoriety, 1st as roadie after that while frontman for San Fran crazies the Pipes. The indomitable Waybill produced such outrageous stage personalities as druggy superstar Quay Lude and crippled Nazi Dr. Strangekiss. Given birth to in Omaha, Nebraska, Waybill installed with founding Pipes Rick Anderson, Expenses Spooner and Vince Welnick because they relocated from an Az art school to some California cult pursuing in 1972. The Pipes’ crazy stage act utilized risque theatrics and burlesque, and their debut, made by Al Kooper, included the immediately unforgettable “White colored Punks on Dope.” non-e of the absurdity appeased the label nevertheless, and A&M dumped the Tubes after their 5th release, the fairly tame HANDY REMOTE CONTROL, also didn’t strike big. Paradoxically, like the majority of visual pioneers from the 70s (Alice Cooper, Kiss), the encroaching video age group almost smashed the Pipes. The band decreased the soft-core backdrop and attemptedto turn into a strait rock and roll unit before putting your signature on to a fresh label. Bowing to industrial concessions, the Pipes do an about-face, teaming with uber-pop maker David Foster for The Conclusion Backward Theory (salesmanship strategy, natch) and Outdoors Inside. Though these LPs yielded some graph action, 85’s Like Bomb fizzled as well as the Pipes separated. Waybill himself released a set of solo records, and also resulted in in Expenses and Ted’s Excellent Experience. Furthermore to rejoining the Pipes within the 90s, Waybill functions frequently with Richard Marx, and provided songs and creation to Vixen, Gorky Recreation area, and others.
