After forming in 1993, Stockholm, Sweden’s Encounter Down attemptedto trip Pantera and Machine Head’s groove-metal gravy train (and just why not really?) with a set of amazing (however, not amazing enough) middle-’90s albums: 1995’s Mindfield and 1997’s The Twisted Guideline the Wicked. Yet the band may today be best appreciated for where its people finished up playing following. Vocalist Marco Aro continued to entrance the Haunted, guitarist Joacim Carlsson came back to his prior concern Afflicted, amid various other tasks, bassist Joakim Harju shaped Construcdead, while previous skin-pounder Peter Stjärnvind (one Richard Bång performed in the band’s initial record) performed with everyone from Entombed, to Krux, to Murder Squad. And years following the reality, pursuing his dismissal through the Haunted, Aro reassembled Encounter Down’s last lineup — alongside Construcdead drummer Erik Thyselius — and documented another album called The Will to Power, released in 2005.
