Eyes of Fire

Following a final dissolution of the underappreciated mid-’90s industrial-doom-core ensemble Mindrot, Orange County, CA, residents Dan Kaufmann (vocals/guitars) and Matt Fisher (bass/vocals) started assembling their next musical endeavor, Eyes of Open fire, in 2003. Still influenced by previous contemporaries Neurosis as well as the remarkably successful Device — no to say the newer accomplishments of next-generation prog-alt-metal achievement tales like Isis and Mastodon — Eye of Fire finished their lineup with guitarist Cary Petersen, keyboardist Ben Smith, and drummer John Haddad, authorized with Century Press, after that released 2003’s Disintegrate EP and 2004’s Ashes to Embers LP in quick succession. They were provided a combined reception by both critics and followers, prompting a significant inter-band reshuffling that earned new users Bobby Thomas (acoustic guitar — ex-Morgion), Pete Truax (keyboards), and Nicky Bernardi (drums). Eye of Fire after that got to focus on their second complete album, Prisons, with time for an early on 2006 release.
