Exploding Star Orchestra

The Exploding Celebrity Orchestra happened when the Chicago Cultural Middle as well as the Jazz Institute approached cornetist and composer Rob Mazurek about piecing together an avant-garde jazz ensemble to get a Chicago live concert. Mazurek constructed an orchestra of improvising Chicago music artists (including several people of Tortoise), rehearsed it, so when the dirt resolved, an interlocking collection called WE ALL HAVE BEEN from SOMEPLACE ELSE was performed. Music artists in the Exploding Celebrity Orchestra, at least during the SOMEPLACE ELSE recording, included Mazurek (cornet), Nicole Mitchell (flute), Jim Baker (piano), Corey Wilkes (flügelhorn), Jeff Parker (acoustic guitar), Matt Bauder (bass clarinet and tenor saxophone), Jeb Bishop (trombone), Josh Berman (cornet), Jason Adasiewicz (vibraphone), John McEntire (marimba and tubular bells), Matt Lux (electrical bass), Jason Ajemian (acoustic bass), Mike Reed (drums, percussion, and noticed), and John Herndon (drums). In 2008, Excitement Jockey released the sophomore Exploding Celebrity Orchestra record, Costs Dixon with Exploding Superstar Orchestra, a collaborative time between your ensemble and Dixon in another of the legendary free of charge jazz trumpeter’s last documented appearances. (Dixon passed away in June of 2010 at age 84.) The record proclaimed the departure of Wilkes and McEntire in the group as well as the addition of vocalist Damon Hair from the Eternals. The lineup transformed again by enough time from the ensemble’s third record, Stars Have Forms, released by Delmark this year 2010.
