One-third from the influential L.A. hip-hop group Dilated Individuals, Proof was created Michael Perretta in LA, relocating from Santa Monica to Venice Seaside with his mom when he was six, after his parents’ divorce. Though Proof was greatly into skating and graffiti while developing up, it wasn’t until he was 12, when he relocated nearby to QDIII (Quincy Jones’ child) and could observe firsthand how beats had been produced and what it required to be always a top-quality manufacturer, that he begun to be more thinking about seriously seeking music. He installed with MC Rakaa in 1992, as well as the duo released several singles as Dilated Individuals (their initial beats thanks to QDIII) before adding DJ Babu in 1998. The group released four albums (The System, Expansion Team, Community View, 20/20) on Capitol before splitting from their website in 2006 and signing up for ABB. It had been compared to that same label that Proof converted for his single record. Entitled The Weatherman (a nickname a enthusiast had provided him early in his profession), the record, something he previously wished to make since 2001 but have been unable to due to the agreement with Capitol, premiered in March 2007, and highlighted production from Proof himself, Jake One, the Alchemist, and Babu, amongst others, and was accompanied by Crimson Tape Instrumentals, an record of beats, a couple of months afterwards. In 2011 he came back using the record Cats & Canines, offering guests like Aloe Blacc, Raekwon, Slug, and Prodigy, along with creation through the Alchemist, DJ Top, DJ Babu, yet others.
