Among Europe’s state-of-the-art and intriguing saxophonists, Evan Parker’s solos and playing design are distinguished by his creative usage of circular breathing and false fingering. Parker can generate furious bursts, screeches, bleats, honks, and spiraling lines and phrases, and his single sax function isn’t for the squeamish. He’s mostly of the players not merely willing but wanting to show his affinity for late-period John Coltrane. Parker caused a Coltrane-influenced quartet in Birmingham in the first ’60s. Upon resettling in London in 1965, he started using the Spontaneous Music Outfit. He became a member of them in 1967 and continued to be until 1969. Parker fulfilled guitarist Derek Bailey within the group, as well as the duo created the Music Improvisation Organization in 1968.
