Evaldo Rui began in radio in the ’30s along with his sibling Haroldo Barbosa. His initial work was at Rádio Philips, as helper in the displays Casé and Horas perform Outro Mundo, shortly becoming a sports activities commentator. He also proved helpful at the air channels Educadora, Guanabara, Nacional, Cajuti, and lastly Mauá, where he was creative movie director. Rui also proved helpful in tv for Television Tupi and Television Record. In 1943 he started a relationship with Custódio Mesquita, with whom he’d reveal 20 romantic music. The initial one was the bolero-canção “Pra Que Viver” (1943). Being among the most effective had been: “Promessa,” “Como operating-system Rios Que Correm Em fun??o de o Mar,” and “Valsa perform Meu Subúrbio” (1943), all documented by Sílvio Caldas; “Rosa de Maio” and “Gira, Gira, Gira” (1944), documented by Carlos Galhardo; “Valsinha perform Turi-Turé,” documented by Linda Batista, and “Feitiçaria,” documented by Sílvio Caldas, both in 1945; “Noturno em Tempo de Samba,” yet others. After Mesquita’s loss of life, Araci de Almeida documented “Saia perform Meu Caminho” in 1946; Linda Batista documented “Viva o Samba” in 1947; and Dircinha Batista documented “Adeus” in 1949. In 1950, his samba “Nega Maluca” (with Haroldo Lobo) was a big Carnival strike, performed by Linda Batista.
