Using the stated reason for trying to keep carefully the tarantella alive in Italy (a dance and music that started in certain specific areas in Southern Italy, including Naples, and parts of Sicily and Puglia) and all of those other world both by documenting traditional interpretations and by combining it with contemporary sounds, Eugenio Bennato is a pivotal and influential musician in his native country, you start with his co-founding of the group Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare in 1969, who have been focused on both the study and revival of tradition Southern Italian music, and instrumental towards the recognition of artists within the “Scuola Napoletana” (Pino Daniele, brother Edoardo Bennato, and Tony Esposito, to mention several).
