While Etana’s classic design of socially conscious reggae appears like a a reaction to all of the sex and assault in dancehall reggae, her trip back to origins music began like a a reaction to the hedonistic part of R&B. Created in Kingston, Jamaica, Etana — a Swahili name for “the solid one” –was still referred to as Shauna McKenzie and surviving in Florida when she remaining the nursing system she was going to at college to become listed on the R&B group Present.
