Erskine Tate

Violinist and bandleader Erskine Tate helped pioneer Chicago jazz and big music group music along with his Vendome Orchestra, using on the Vendome Movie theater in East 31st and Condition streets. The music group featured a Louis Armstrong, and performed live music during and between silent movies in concert halls. Tate performed through the middle-’30s before retiring to instruct music. His music group also highlighted Freddie Keppard on cornet, Buster Bailey on saxophone, Jimmy Bertrand on drums, Ed Atkins on trombone, and Teddy Weatherford on piano.
