Ensign

Offering ex-members of Vision, H20, and Undertow, and motivated by East Coast hardcore legends Youth of Today, New Jersey’s Ensign was originally a quartet offering vocalist Tim Shaw, guitarist John Fraunberger, bassist Nate Gluck, and drummer Ryan Murphy. Indecision released their self-titled debut EP, quickly accompanied by the four-song Fall from Sophistication, with a cover of Instead’s “We’ll Make the Difference.” In 1997, their first-full duration, Direction of What to Come, premiered to a influx of critical compliment, creating a group of fans throughout the nation. The follow-up full-length, Ensemble the First Rock, premiered by California’s Nitro Information in 1999, offering brand-new guitarist Ryan “Mackenzie” Donoghue and drummer John O’Neill. In 2000, Indecision released a compilation from the group’s early function, titled 3 YEARS, 8 WEEKS, Eleven Times; Ensign’s formal third album, The price tag on Progression, made an appearance on Nitro in early 2001, offering brand-new guitarist Chris Byrnes and brand-new bassist Chris Oliver (Gluck turned to electric guitar).
