Ensemble Economique

California-based experimental musician Brian Pyle (also of Starving Weirdos and RV Paintings) uses the name Ensemble Economique for his single ventures, starting from dark, Shamanic drone to mystical, echo-heavy psych rock to shadow-dwelling goth/darkwave. He initiated the task with On the Feet of Nameless Streets, an record of clattering, sometimes noisy soundscapes for the Digitalis label in 2008. The label also released No Gps navigation, a limited partner CD-R including the project’s first recordings. 2 yrs later, two completely different LPs bearing the name Outfit Economique had been released: the expansive, cinematic Position Still, Facing Forwards (Amish Information) as well as the extreme, tribal psychedelia of Psychical (Not really Not really Fun). 2011’s Crossing the Move, By Torchlight (Dekorder) added chilling horror-soundtrack synth textures and shuddering digital beats, leading to the project’s most immediate, cohesive function to date. The entire year also noticed the release of the eerie, jarring cassette known as The Vastness Can be Bearable Just Through Like on Real estate agents of Chaos.
