Emmet Spiceland

Emmet Spiceland had not been a guy, but a 1960s Irish folk group with many members who continued to even more famous rings and tasks, though not absolutely all of these were in the group at exactly the same time. They grew from the Emmet Folk Group, shaped by Dónal Lunny, Brian Bolger, and Mick Moloney. The lineup transformed, nevertheless, when Moloney remaining to become listed on the Johnstons, mostly of the Irish folk vocal sets of the time to create some effect on the pop picture overseas. Lunny and Bolger after that became a member of with brothers Michael Byrne and Brian Byrne of Sheffield’s Spiceland Folk, naming the brand new aggregation Emmet Spiceland. Using a repertoire favoring (though not really limited by) earnest and polite if good-naturedly performed ballads (occasionally with orchestration), they topped the Irish graphs in 1968 with “Mary from Dungloe.” “Baidin Fheidhlimi” and “Buncloudy” produced the Irish TOP the same calendar year, plus some of their non-LP singles chosen material and creation with slightly even more of the pop/rock impact, as heard specifically on the cover of Leonard Cohen’s “SUCH A LONG TIME Marianne.” In 1969, Leo O’Kelly changed Lunny, who designed to quit music to spotlight art. They do a few travels with O’Kelly, including your final one that noticed them go directly to the USA, Lunny back the lineup instead of Michael Byrne. They split up following this last 1969 tour, with O’Kelly developing the Irish folk-rock group Tir Na Nog, and Lunny, after a period making jewelry, signing up for Christy Moore in another of the esteemed Irish folk sets of all period, Planxty. With Brian Byrne (who acquired performed in the London stage creation of Jesus Christ Superstar in the first ’70s) in the lineup, Emmet Spiceland do re-form a couple of years later to get a 1973 single.
