Emily Barker

Inspired by her father’s Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, and Sandy Denny record collection, Antipodean singer/songwriter Emily Barker is among the most interesting talents over the contemporary chamber folk scene. Blessed in Bridgetown, a little rural backwater in southwest Australia, Barker started her musical profession when she shifted to the U.K. in 2002 and teamed up with guitarist Rob Jackson (Eddi Audience) to create the Low Nation. The duo documented two albums, Welcome to the reduced Country as well as the Dark Street, before Barker made a decision to go after a solo profession, liberating her debut LP, Photos. Fires. Fables., in 2007. After recruiting the cello, violin, and musical noticed trio of Anna Jenkins, Jo Silverston, and Gill Sandell, aka the Crimson Clay Halo, she released her follow-up, Regardless of the Snow, through her personal label, Everyone Sang, in 2008. Its starting monitor, “Nostalgia,” was selected as the theme melody towards the BBC’s Kenneth Branagh-starring version of Swedish criminal offense crisis Wallander, and later on continued to earn a BAFTA and Royal Tv Award. Barker offers toured with Frank Turner, José González, as well as the Waifs and released her third recording, Almanac, in 2011. Barker released her 4th recording, the Calum Malcolm-produced Dear River, in 2013.
