Landing between your stylish synths of Phoenix and colorful retro-pop flourishes of MGMT, Emil & Close friends may be the eclectic electronic and neo-psychedelic-styled brainchild of Emil Hewitt. Getting started in Boston in the later aughts, Hewitt connected listeners using a Wikipedia hoax that stated the task included professional Emile Hirsch. Thankfully, his captivating vocals, shiny beats, and dancefloor-summoning basslines demonstrated there was product alongside the silliness. By 2010, he previously relocated to NY and signed using the Cantora label, where he released the EP Downed Overall economy that summer. Because of its bubbling mixture of electronica, disco, folk, and pop and his rousing live shows (having a spinning lineup of Close friends), Emil & Close friends became a preferred over the indie music blogosphere. His initial full-length, Lo & Behold, appeared the next fall.
