Elmo Williams & Early, Hezekiah

Elmo Williams (given birth to Feb 6, 1933) and Hezekiah Early (given birth to Oct 7, 1934) both was raised in the region of Natchez, MS. Williams spent amount of time in the military and worked being a baker, a vehicle drivers, and on a street crew, even while playing music privately, picking up electric guitar himself after his dad refused to provide him lessons in the device. Early banged on pans and pots and performed harp outside his father’s supermarket as a youngsters, being taught partly by region harp wizard Papa George. Using a mic stand plus some duct tape, Early could enjoy drums and harp at exactly the same time, and produced Hezekiah and the home Rockers. He was also highlighted in the soundtrack from the 1979 Muhammad Ali Television movie Freedom Street. Both men performed regularly on the famed Big Haney’s club over the river in Ferriday, LA (the city that created Jimmy Swaggart, Mickey Gilley, and Jerry Lee Lewis). In 1997 they documented an individual, “For the Like of Jesus-Chapter 1” for Sympathy for the Record Sector, and an record, Takes Someone to Understand One, on Unwanted fat Possum. Their noisy, brash, aggressive audio found favour with punks and indie rockers aswell as with ambitious blues fans.
