Elmer “Skippy” Williams

A profession big-band participant, Elmer Williams used among the better, including Chick Webb and Fletcher Henderson, amongst others. Williams caused Claude Hopkins in 1926-1927 before signing up for Webb. He caused Webb on / off through 1934, also playing for a while with McKinney’s Natural cotton Pickers in 1931 and with among Louis Armstrong’s early big rings in 1932-1933. He documented many times with Webb, including a single i’m all over this “Stompin’ on the Savoy” in 1934. Williams caused Henderson from 1935-1939, after that with Fletcher’s sibling Horace from June 1939. Williams afterwards caused Ella Fitzgerald in 1941, Lucky Millinder from 1944-1945, and Hopkins once more in 1946. In early 1947 Williams used trumpeter Ruler Kolax’s big music group, which also included a John Coltrane on alto saxophone. He toured with Herbert “Kat” Cowens in 1950; afterwards in the 10 years he proved helpful in Milan, Italy, with tenor saxophonist Freddy Mitchell. During his profession Williams also caused such music artists as the trumpeter Roy Eldridge, bluesman Ivory Joe Hunter, and saxophonist Benny Carter. Williams experienced from the consequences of diabetes past due in his lifestyle; his legs had been ultimately amputated, yet Williams continuing to perform within a wheelchair. Williams’ nickname was “Skippy.”
