Ellison certainly are a young emo music group from Cincinnati, OH, who have first gained interest through their association with mid-‘naughties picture stars Hawthorne Levels but feature a far more straightforward and pop-oriented audio comparable to a mellow, partially acoustic combination between Jimmy Eat Globe as well as the Shins. Ellison started in 2002, when teenage vocalist/songwriter Josh Hill self-released a demonstration of single acoustic songs in the way of Dashboard Confessional. Attempting to expand the demo’s audio with full-band preparations, Hill and a schoolmate, drummer Mitch Wyatt, documented another demo beneath the name the Josh Hill Music group before adding bassist J.D. Carlson and changing their name towards the punchier Ellison in 2004. The trio documented its debut EP, Indecisive and Half Hearted, in its cellar rehearsal space in the springtime of 2005. A duplicate found its method to Hawthorne Heights frontman J.T. Woodruff, who not merely offered the music group an opening work slot machine, but also released the EP by himself fledgling indie label, Carbon Duplicate Mass media, in early 2006. For the time being, the trio got added a 4th member, business lead guitarist Ian Bolender, whose musical existence allowed Hill to expand the band’s audio by concentrating on classical guitar and keyboards. That positive switch in Ellison’s audio was showcased on the full-length debut, State Goodnight, Sleep Only, which included many improved re-recordings of tunes from your EP and premiered in the summertime of 2006.
