Parish successfully studied with Boscha and Dizi but he might well have already been before his time. Like a composer and performer he was theoretically advanced and discovered innovative ways that he might use the double-action from the harp, his device of preference. From 1834 he resided in Vienna despite the fact that he wished to make his house in London; the musical establishment in Britain was not prepared for the single harp. Parish’s eighty plus compositions for the harp consist of probably one of the most challenging harp items ever scored and a quantity of concertos, concertinas, a symphony, additional items for the harp and an unfinished strategy. The last placement which Parish kept was chamber musician towards the emperor in Vienna.
