From the outset of his career until 50 years later when Buena Vista Social Club produced him children name, Eliades Ochoa built his repertoire from Cuban traditional music, specifically sons, guarachas, guajiras, and boleros. As a kid, he learned to try out acoustic guitar and tres (an modified guitar), and in addition began performing. In 1958 he relocated to the town of Santiago and through the pursuing decade, developed a profession as a specialist musician. Among organizations with which he performed had been the Oriental Quintet as well as the Típico Septet. For quite some time, Ochoa was carefully associated with the Cuarteto Patria and with vocalist Compay Segundo. Using the previous, for whom he was musical movie director and vocalist, he documented A Una Coqueta and Cubafrica. (Afterwards reissues of albums by both these groupings frequently show up under Ochoa’s name.) Through the middle-’80s, he occasionally caused Compay Segundo, showing up throughout Cuba and in addition visiting various other Central American countries as well as the U.S. In 1997, he made an appearance within the film Buena Vista Public Club. Among music artists with whom Ochoa spent some time working are performers as diverse because the Western world African saxophonist Divango and Bob Dylan.
