Electric Bonsai Band

Biography

The Electric powered Bonsai Band is really a one-man ensemble featuring guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist and songwriter Andrew Ratshin. Using the slogan “it isn’t electric…it isn’t a music group,” the Electric powered Bonsai Band is constantly on the expand upon the psychosexual lyrical strategy of Ratshin’s 1980s trio, Uncle Bonsai. The child of the opera vocalist, Ratshin, who was simply born in NY on, may 17, 1958, analyzed traditional music in the Mannes University of Music in NY from age four. A classically qualified violinist, he also gained a qualification in music structure from Bennington University in Vermont. Ratshin’s traditional studies were well balanced by his like of folk music. Starting your guitar at age seven, he published his first tunes while in senior high school and was playing expertly in folk-music coffeehouses within a couple of years. Upon his graduation from Bennington University in 1981, Ratshin relocated to Seattle, where he installed with vocalists Arni Adler and Ashley O’Keefe to create Uncle Bonsai. Through the eight . 5 years which they performed collectively, the trio documented four albums, including two studio room (A Lonesome Grain of Corn and Kids Want Sex each day), the live The Inessential Uncle Bonsai, along with a mail-order-only cassette, Myn Ynd Wymyn. The trio’s repertoire included such Ratshin-composed music as “Cheerleaders on Medicines,” “Male organ Envy,” “Lois Street” and “Womb for Lease.” Following the trio disbanded in 1989, Ratshin documented the very first Electric powered Bonsai Band record, 20 Secs of Pleasure, a mail-order-only cassette offering 20- and 40-second music including “The Bluegrass Festival,” “The Blues Melody (Baby)” and “Doug’s First Work.” The record was reissued on Compact disc in 1993. Regarding his wife Hilary Field, a traditional guitarist, Ratshin produced his very own label, Yellowish Tail Records. Furthermore to albums by Uncle Bonsai as well as the Electric powered Bonsai Music group, the label provides released albums by Patrice O’Neill, Gesa Dutra as well as the Mel Cooleys, a music group that Ratshin produced with Lisa Theo (previously of Ranch Love), Cathy Croce (previously of Bad Bone fragments and the Cable connections), and Robert Puff (previously of Tour de Drive and Pulse).
