Although her country-flavored and blues-infused version of contemporary folk (which can also include healthy doses of rockabilly and surf) has drawn comparisons to musicians like Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Jolie Holland, as well as the Be Good Tanyas, Eilen Jewell’s strongest influences have already been the classic sides documented by Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday (the latter artist is not any doubt the foundation for Jewell’s characteristic and surprisingly effective stretched, slowed, and also slurred vocal mannerisms). Created and elevated in Boise, Idaho, Jewell started piano lessons at age seven and found your guitar when she was 14. Another album from Personal Sounds, Queen from the Small Key, premiered in 2011. Another few years had been spent touring the U.S. and all over the world, culminating within the 2014 live double-album Live in the Narrows. After relocating back again to her hometown of Boise, Idaho, Jewell released her 5th recording, 2015’s Sundown Over Ghost City.
