Eiji Oue

Japanese conductor Eiji Oue began with piano lessons at age 4, with 15 commenced with research in the Taho College of Music. His instructor there is Hideo Saito, the same conductor who instructed Seiji Ozawa, and it had been an invitation from Ozawa that brought Oue to america for the very first time in 1978. Leonard Bernstein got a pastime in Oue at Tanglewood, and in Bernstein’s last years Oue offered as the old maestro’s associate, touring with him and assisting setup the Pacific Music Event in Sapporo, Japan, among Bernstein’s last endeavors. Shortly after Bernstein passed away, Oue was called music movie director from the Erie Philharmonic, a posture he kept until taking the directorship from the Minnesota Orchestra.
