Caudella studied along with his dad, cellist Francisc Candella, and later on with Vieuxtemps, Reiss, Massard, and Allard. He toured throughout European countries being a violinist, was violinist at Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza’s courtroom, served being a teacher on the conservatory, and conductor for the movie theater orchestra in Iasi. Caudella helped develop Romanian music through his compositions and musical research. His opera Petru Rares is among the initial Romanian operas. Caudella’s analysis led to his id of three scales in Romanian folk melody, like the often-used “acoustic” range comprising C-D-E-F#-G-A-B-C.
