Edna May

Biography

b. Edna Pettie, 2 Sept 1878, Syracuse, NY, USA, d. 1 January 1948, Lausanne, Switzerland. As a little child May made an appearance on stage in kids’s productions of musical comedies and operettas, before learning music at the brand new York Conservatory. In 1895 she produced her NY debut as an associate from the chorus of Santa Maria. 2 yrs later she performed Violet Grey within the Belle Of NY, and 1898 is at exactly the same firm’s London creation. This present and May’s existence in it had been features of musical theater of the time and she became a much-admired superstar. Other productions implemented, included in this, and generally in London, are An American Beauty (1900), THE LADY From Up There (1901), also staged in NY exactly the same calendar year, Kitty Gray (1901), Three Small Maids (1902), THE INSTITUTION Gal (1903), also staged in NY the following calendar year, La Poupée (1904), The Capture Of THE GROWING SEASON (1905), in NY, The Belle Of Mayfair (1906) and Nelly Neil (1907). In 1900, Might made several records accompanied on the piano by Ronald Landon: ‘Dear Small Baby’, ‘They All Follow Me’ and ‘The Purity Brigade’. In 1907, Might married for the next time, her brand-new husband getting millionaire Oscar Lewisohn. The few settled in Britain where, aside from a brief advantage performance from the Belle Of NY in 1911, Time lived in pension in the stage. In 1915 the few returned to the united states and the next calendar year she produced a silent film, Salvation Joan, the storyplot of which produced from The Belle Of NY. In 1917 Lewisohn passed away and apparently his widow inherited $5, 000, 000 and thereafter Might remained in pension until her loss of life in Switzerland, and she was taken to London for burial.
