Both a dependable program participant and occasional bandleader, Eddie Marshall played and documented in free, hard bop, and jazz-rock situations within the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. Marshall shifted to NY from Springfield, Massachusetts in the first ’60s, and used Sam Streams and Stan Getz. He documented with Charlie Mariano and Toshiko Akiyoshi. He proved helpful within the jazz-rock rings Almanac and 4th Method with Mike Nock in the past due ’60s and early ’70s, after that was home drummer on the Keystone Korner from 1971 to 1980, using Dexter Gordon, George Benson, and many more who appeared on the place. Marshall documented thoroughly with Bobby Hutcherson within the ’70s, with John Klemmer, Kenny Burrell, and Jon Hendricks. He documented with Larry Vukovich, Bruce Forman, as well as the group Bebop & Beyond being a head. Marshall do his own program (Dance of sunlight) being a head for Timeless in the past due ’70s, and another established (Holy Mischief) in the past due ’90s in the Ruddy Duck label. Eddie Marshall passed away of a coronary attack in Sept 2011 at age 73.
