Eddie “Guitar” Burns

Detroit boasted a captivating blues scene through the postwar period, headed by John Lee Hooker and prominently featuring Eddie Uses up, who hit the Electric motor Town in 1948 and musically flourished there. While still in Mississippi, Uses up found his early blues schooling in the 78s of Sonny Boy Williamson, Tommy McClennan, and Big Costs Broonzy. When he strike Detroit, Uses up was solely a harp participant. He cut “Notoriety Girl,” his first one for Visit to 1948, with partner John T. Smith on electric guitar. Burns added electric guitar to his personal arsenal another year, cutting periods with Hooker. Uses up’ very own discography was slender but go for — he trim singles for DeLuxe in 1952 (“Hello Miss Jessie Lee”), Checker in 1954 (“Biscuit Cooking Mama”), JVB, and Chess in 1957 (“Deal with Me Like I Deal with You”). In 1961, Uses up waxed the slashing “Orange Drivers” and many more R&B-slanted edges for Harvey Fuqua’s Harvey Information. Later, Burns produced a fine record for Blue Fit Information, Detroit, that demonstrated his flexibility on two equipment to good benefit. Incidentally, blues skill works in the Uses up family: sibling Jimmy is normally a blues-soul performer located in Chicago, along with his very own impressive discography extending back again to the ’60s.
