Ed Soph


b. Edward B. Soph, 21 March 1945, Coronado, California, USA. Soph started playing drums young, studying in Tx both before and during going to North Texas Condition University. During this time period, the middle- to past due 60s, he performed in the university or college’s Lab Music group, a unit that is the training floor for most latter-day jazz music artists. While still in Tx, he caused Arnett Cobb along with other locally-based performers and also performed during the summer time holiday with touring rings, including those of Stan Kenton and Ray McKinley. From your past due 60s and on with the 70s he previously several spells with Woody Herman before settling in NY. During the remaining decade he used various market leaders, including Expenses Watrous, Clark Terry, with whom he produced Big B-A-D-Band Live IN THE Wichita Jazz Event 1974 as well as the Globetrotter, and Dave Liebman. Towards the finish from the 70s Soph became deeply involved with education, teaching privately and in institutions and schools. Midway with the 80s, he became a faculty member back again at NTSU. A superbly gifted percussionist, Soph’s little band work is completely admirable and shows his great specialized presents.
