Although he didn’t record plenty of over time, Ed Kelly was a famous name and a significant force in Oakland, California as well as the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bay Area. He 1st performed piano in his father’s chapel in Tx and his root base had been in gospel music. After his parents transferred to Oakland when he was eight, Kelly became even more involved with jazz. Apart from spending an interval located in Fort Devens, Massachusetts when he is at the Military, Kelly spent his lifestyle throughout the Oakland region. A teacher of music at Laney University for over 25 years, he executed jazz camps and among his learners was tenor saxophonist Robert Stewart. Kelly acquired opportunities to execute with Nat Adderley, Jimmy Witherspoon, Sonny Stitt, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Milt Jackson, Dexter Gordon, and Abbey Lincoln, among numerous others, when they made an appearance in North California. He also documented with violinist Michael Light, Bruce Forman, and vocalist Glucose Pie DeSanto and led periods of his very own for Theresa, including a cooperation with Pharoah Sanders in 1981 that was afterwards reissued on Compact disc (with additional materials) by Proof. In the first 2000s Kelly experienced a heart stroke that affected his capability to play; he passed away several years afterwards in Feb 2005 at age 69.
