Dynamite Hack

The quirky post-grunge quartet Dynamite Hack was formed in Austin, TX, in 1997, taking their name from a collection within the film Caddyshack. Vocalist/guitarist Tag Morris, vocalist/bassist Chad Robinson, guitarist Mike Vlahakis, and drummer Run after Scott required their cues from rings like Weezer, Pavement, Jawbreaker, as well as the Barenaked Women. The latter impact was especially obvious on Dynamite Hack’s acoustic folk-rock cover of N.W.A.’s “Boyz ‘N tha Hood,” which became an area radio hit within the Austin/Dallas region in 1999. In its wake, the group documented a full-length recording, titled Superfast, that was released locally in January 2000 and remixed for nationwide distribution by Common that summer.
