One of NY City’s first breakdancing crews, the Active Rockers were founded circa 1977-1978 and quickly became among the best crews within the picture. Featuring Queens indigenous Child Freeze, Spinner, Victor, George, while others, the Active Rockers liked their heyday through the early ’80s, when their main rivals had been the famous Rocksteady Team; their fights became a few of the most renowned in early hip-hop background. These were also being among the most publicized; a 1981 battle in the Lincoln Middle was so extreme it led to a stage collapse. Both crews also made an appearance in the groundbreaking PBS hip-hop documentary Style Wars; their fight sequence at a roller-skating rink helped spread breakdancing towards the West Coastline and beyond.
