Having had a noted involvement within the Carioca band of music artists that skillfully promoted the melding of jazz with samba, Durval Ferreira had his compositions recorded with achievement by Cannonball Adderley and Stan Getz (“Clouds”), Manfredo Fest (“Tristeza de Nós Dois”), Tamba Trio (“Batida Diferente,” that was re-recorded many times by different performers in Brazil and abroad), Sexteto Bossa Rio (“Tristeza de Nós Dois”), Operating-system Gatos (“Nuvem”), Walter Wanderley, Elis Regina, Agostinho dos Santos (“Avião”), Sarah Vaughan, Herbie Mann, and many more. He also acquired strikes with “Chuva” (created with Pedro Camargo), “Samba Novo” (with Newton Chaves), “Diagonal” (with Maurício Einhorn), and “Moça Flor” (with Lula Freire). After learning from his mom, a mandolinist, the rudiments of your guitar, Ferreira adopted his apprenticeship like a self-taught musician. Then contacted the Carioca nightlife of ’50s music artists like Luís Eça, Johnny Alf, Tom Jobim, João Donato, and Maurício Einhorn, who became his partner. Ferreira’s 1st documented music was “Sambop” (with Maurício Einhorn) by Claudette Soares, included on her behalf LP Nova Geração em Ritmo de Samba (1958). His 1st public efficiency was at the historical Event de Bossa Nova in the Liceu Franco Brasileiro (when bossa nova was still in its amateur period). For the reason that period, he shaped his personal group, which followed Leny Andrade (who got strikes with Ferreira’s compositions “Batida Diferente,” created with Einhorn, and “Estamos Aí,” with Einhorn/Regina Werneck). In 1962, he became a member of Ed Lincoln’s group and Sérgio Mendes’ Sexteto Bossa Rio, with which he performed in the Bossa Nova Event at Carnegie Hall in NY, NY. Also within the U.S., Ferreira documented with Cannonball Adderley (Cannonball Adderley Collection, Vol. 2: Bossa Nova). Also through the ’60s, he performed using the Tamba Trio and was an associate of Eumir Deodato’s Operating-system Gatos, documenting interesting albums together. Ferreira was also an associate from the jury in the III and IV Event Internacional da Canção (International Music Event, Rio de Janeiro). Like a maker, he caused Philips and CID.
