A collision of ragga and punk, shot through with steely metallic guitar, Dub Battle emerged in 1994 being a high-octane, highly political expansion of hard rock and roll’s new-found capability to merge innovative designs with the outdated. Produced in Newport, Wales, in 1993, the four-piece comprises Jeff Rose (electric guitar), Richie Glover (bass), Martin Ford (drums) and Benji (vocals), most of whom originated from different musical backgrounds. Glover acquired played in a number of minor punk rings, while Benji’s apprenticeship emerged in reggae dancehalls, and he previously previously caused Mad Teacher. The music group produced its debut by the end of 1993 using a self-titled 12-inches EP that managed simultaneously to surface in 3 different New Music Express graphs – the ‘Vibes’, ‘Convert Ons’ and ‘Hardcore’ entries. Carrying out a debut mini-album in 1994, they turned to Earache Information for the Mental EP, signing up for Pop Will Eat Itself and Manic Road Preachers on touring engagements. Mental highlighted remixes from Senser, COMPLETELY NEW Heavies and Jamiroquai, and was accompanied by an additional EP, Gorrit. Their initial full album emerged in Feb 1995 with Discomfort, by which period the music group had established a solid live pursuing to augment their press profile. Supporters were rewarded with the uniformly exceptional Wrong Aspect Of Beautiful, that was afterwards re-released in a fresh limited edition edition using a six-track Compact disc of remixes, Best Side Of Gorgeous.
