Dub Taylor

Biography

The turn of the millennium found Germany to be always a gold mine of dub-inflected deep house producers, Dub Taylor being one of the most prominent producers alongside Luomo and Mathias Schaffhauser. As Dub Taylor, Berlin manufacturer Alex Krüger have scored a big dancefloor strike with “I CANNOT (Love A DIFFERENT ONE)” in 2000, his second 12″ for Power Tracks; the monitor employed an enormous, throbbing 4/4 tempo endrenched heavily within an ambient dub sheen topped off with some sappy NY garage-style, greatly accented man diva vocals thanks to Per Fourier. The monitor place Krüger’s Dub Taylor moniker around the map (furthermore to his sponsor of aliases) and arranged the stage for his debut recording, Forms and Numbers, around the esteemed Raum-Musik label in early 2001. Just like the I CANNOT 12″, Forms and Numbers produced waves — Krüger’s deep, minimal design of house and its own periodic forays into vocal place certainly demonstrated itself popular. Significantly less than a 12 months later, Pressure Tracks released another Dub Taylor full-length, Detect. The recording curved up ten of Krüger’s songs from 2000 and 2001, including “I CANNOT,” and functioned as an ideal introduction for the unacquainted. And taking into consideration the Pressure Inc. empire’s reach and impact, many were certainly launched to Krüger’s function. As well as the aforementioned higher-profile produces on Raum-Musik and Pressure Songs, Krüger also released Dub Taylor materials around the Konfekt and USA of Mars brands.

#Fact
1 He was a member of the 1937 Alabama Crimson Tide football team that played in the 1938 Rose Bowl. He stayed behind to make it in films, and secured the role of Ed Carmichael in Frank Capra's film, You Can't Take It with You (1938), because he could play the xylophone.
2 Was a regular in the "stock company" of director Sam Peckinpah, appearing as Priam in Major Dundee (1965); Wainscoat in The Wild Bunch (1969); and Laughlin in The Getaway (1972), among other films.
3 He appeared in three films written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale: 1941 (1979), Used Cars (1980) and Back to the Future Part III (1990). The latter two films were also directed by Zemeckis.
4 He outlived his grandson Adam C. Taylor by four months.
5 He was cast in his first film, You Can't Take It with You (1938), because he knew how to play the xylophone, which was a requirement for the character.
6 He was on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962) one night and played the xylophone using three mallets in each hand. It was a phenomenal performance.
7 Often played a sidekick to cowboy stars, such as Charles Starrett (The Durango Kid), Russell Hayden (Lucky), Don 'Red' Barry (Red Ryder), Bill Elliott and Jimmy Wakely.
8 Older generations will remember him as Ivan Moss in Bonnie and Clyde (1967).
9 His life was chronicled in 2007 in a feature length documentary, "That Guy: The Legacy of Dub Taylor," directed by Mark Ezra Stokes and produced by James Kicklighter.
10 His family moved to Augusta, Georgia when he was five.
11 Once explained that, as a boy, he had been called "W" as a nickname for his first name Walter. That was later shortened to just "Dub."
12 Grandfather-in-law of actress/producer Anne Lockhart.
13 Grandfather of Adam C. Taylor, Matthew Taylor, and Cooper Taylor.
14 Father of actor Buck Taylor, with whom he appeared in Conagher (1991).
