Doug Quattlebaum

b. 22 January 1927, Florence, SC, USA. It had been after shifting to Philadelphia in the first 40s that Quattlebaum used the guitar significantly, and toured with several gospel groups, declaring to have documented using the Bells Of Pleasure in Tx. In 1952, he documented solo being a blues vocalist for regional label Gotham. By 1961, he was associated the Ward Performers but, when uncovered with a researcher, was playing blues and well-known music through the PA of his ice-cream truck, hence the name of his record. Softee Guy Blues demonstrated him to be always a forceful vocalist, influenced being a guitarist by Blind Boy Fuller, and with an eclectic repertoire generally derived from information. Quattlebaum produced some appearances for the folk circuit, but shortly came back to Philadelphia, where he documented an individual in the past due 60s. He’s thought to have got moved into the ministry shortly afterwards.
