Doug Mettome

A promising bop trumpeter who took some excellent solos on several record times, Doug Mettome under no circumstances rose above the journeyman condition and was underused like a soloist throughout a lot of his existence. He began on piano before switching to trumpet and performed locally in Sodium Lake Town, including leading his personal big music group. After serving within the armed service, Mettome caused the orchestras of Billy Eckstine (1946-47), Benny Goodman’s bebop music group (1948-49), Woody Herman’s Third Herd (1950-52) and Tommy Dorsey (1953). His solos with Goodman and Sam Many on a few times in the 1950s are being among the most satisfying of his profession. Mettome, who also documented with Urbie Green and Johnny Richards amongst others, slipped into obscurity in the past due 1950s and was generally forgotten by enough time he passed on in 1964 at age group 38. Mettome hardly ever led an archive time of his very own.
