While often from the learners of Lennie Tristano because so many of them have already been her instructors (including Connie Crothers), Dori Levine includes a design and conception of her own. In early stages, Levine sang with her close friends along to vocal group recordings, racking your brains on the harmonies. She also was a singer-guitarist who performed blues and folk music. While going to college as a skill student, she noticed Annie Hurwitz sing golf swing requirements with pianist Brooks Kerr and was influenced to review the information of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Vacation and finally Betty Carter. After graduating from the institution of Visible Arts in 1976, Levine required performing lessons from Anne Marie Moss and Ann Ruckert. Impressed by a Liz Gorrill record, she found that Gorrill analyzed with Tristano, therefore she wanted him out and analyzed with him as well. Levine created a vocal trio with Bob Casanova and Sally Swisher that was known as Over Easy and was mixed up in New York region during 1981-1991. She also performed free of charge improvisations with her group Tone of voice from the Additional Side. She’s since been a instructor of jazz and vocal improvisation, documented two CDs for the brand new Artists label, and frequently works together with pianist Michael Levy, guitarist Ed Littman, or her spouse, pianist Giacomo Franci. Dori Levine attacks an equilibrium between singing requirements and openly improvising, excelling in both areas.
