Doreen Thobekile

b. c.1943, Natal. Elevated in Durban, while in college Thobekile sang, danced and discovered to try out mbira and umqangala. She became a specialist dancer, touring internationally with African Follies. Thobekile frequented additional African countries even though in Zimbabwe (after that Rhodesia) wedded a English white man called Webster. This resulted in them both becoming deported to Britain. In 1971 she made an appearance as a vocalist in London in Ipi Tombi, spending a lot of the 70s in the display.
