Don Juan Mancha

Detroit-native Don Juan Mancha wore many hats during his 40-year foray in the music biz: songwriter, producer, arranger, record label owner, street manager, and radio DJ. Everything began in senior high school where he sang in a variety of vocal groups like the Delrays with Barrett Solid. After Air Push duty, he came back to Detroit and got knee-deep in to the city’s burgeoning documenting picture. Berry Gordy was penning strikes for Jackie Wilson, the Wonders, and Marv Johnson. Gordy also got Tamla Information off and operating; others followed match, and brands like Fortune have been on the picture for a long time. His 1st big creation was the Falcons’ immortal “I CAME ACROSS a Like” having a 19-year-old Wilson Pickett belting out the business lead vocal. When Pickett remaining to go single, Mancha had written and created several his early edges including “IF YOU WANT Me” and “For Better or Worse,” dealing with Robert Bateman and William “Sonny” Sanders. He shifted to California in 1962 and caused Ike Turner but held his fits in Detroit where he created and had written for Emmanuel Laskey and strike licks at Correctone and Thelma Information, collaborating with Ivy Hunter, Clay McMurray, Freddie Gorman, while others. A proceed to Chicago on South Cottage Grove demonstrated productive as he started writing for local people like kid prodigy Darrow Fletcher. Back Detroit, he found out Jack port Montgomery (previously referred to as Marvin Tyrone Jones) and had written and created “Dearly Beloved” (also released as “My Dear Beloved”), a music that did nothing at all upon its launch on Scepter Information but is popular now by spirit music aficionados, and “Don’t Switch Your Back again on Me,” for Montgomery, who was simply renamed following the motion picture celebrity. The second option was Montgomery’s debut and Mancha released it on his fledgling Barracuda label. Mancha gave Marvin Jones his stage name and was also instrumental in Clyde Wilson getting Steve Mancha. Don Davis was attempting to create a fresh name for the vocalist but strike a bump at Steve; taking a look at Don Juan, Davis asked, “brain if I contact him Steve Mancha, making use of your last name?” “Sure,” stated D. Mancha, “soulful as he sings he may use any name he desires.” Always on the road, Mancha required his writing, organizing, and producing abilities to Memphis and NY. He caused Chaka Khan and Sherrie Payne before she joined up with the Supremes. Mancha aided Motown’s ex-Artist and Repertoire Movie director William “Mickey” Stevenson on Richard Pryor’s Adios Amigo flick and done a Disney workout video starring Mickey Mouse. He worked well as Edwin Starr’s street supervisor for awhile and collaborated with Starr on some tunes with extraterrestrial game titles: “Soaring Saucers Over Georgia,” “Globe Man,” and “Past due Great THE WORLD.” He created a tv pilot MCed by Starr entitled Back again Beat Town in the ’80s that was impressed by the introduction of MTV. Located in his hometown, Detroit, Mancha’s focusing on two tvs shows, an recording, and a film. Which may appear to be a whole lot, but it’s simple child’s play for “Right Ahead and DIRECTLY” music hanger-on Don Juan Mancha.
