Biography

Through his are both a performer and producer, Don Fleming was a longtime mainstay from the contemporary underground rock scene. He initial emerged through the early 1980s fronting the Washington D.C.-structured Velvet Monkeys, debuting in 1981 using the tape-only Everything Is normally Right; Future implemented two years afterwards, and in 1986 the group made an appearance with Fifty percent Japanese on the split cassette released over the K label. The group dissolved immediately after, at which period Fleming and drummer Jay Spiegel relocated to NY and produced B.A.L.L. with Shimmy Disk honcho and Shockabilly alum Kramer, debuting in 1987 with Period. Upon B.A.L.L.’s demise, Fleming re-formed the Velvet Monkeys, this time around with an all-star lineup including Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Pussy Galore’s Julia Cafritz; Rake, an idea album within the custom of ’70s-period exploitation soundtracks, implemented in 1990. Upon debuting his most recent band Gumball using the Particular Kiss LP, Fleming transferred into outside creation, teaming with Kim Gordon to helm Hole’s 1991 debut Quite inside. That same calendar year, he also created Teenage Fanclub’s exceptional God Understands Its Accurate EP, reteaming using the group for the full-length Bandwagonesque, broadly acclaimed one of the year’s greatest efforts. A calendar year later, furthermore to Gumball’s Super Tasty EP, he also performed within the alt-rock supergroup Dim Superstars and created the Screaming Trees and shrubs’ Lovely Oblivion; the Posies’ Frosting for the Beater adopted in 1993, as do Gumball’s Super Tasty. In 1994, Fleming amazed many by creating materials for Alice Cooper’s Last Enticement recording. After their Trend on Snow, Gumball disbanded, and with the 1996 EP Because Tomorrow Shows up, he started a solo profession. In 1998, Fleming co-produced Sonic Youth’s ONE THOUSAND Leaves.
