Dominique Regef

A master from the hurdy-gurdy, Dominique Regef has adapted the chordophone instrument to both traditional medieval music and improvisation. In critiques of his single album, Tourneries, documented with soprano saxophonist Michel Doneda and electrical guitarist Dominique Repecaud, Eight stated that Regef offers “transformed a musical instrument of antiquity into something absolutely contemporary,” as the Wire had written that he “produces a rigorous soundscape of whirling strings, humming drones, and strident polyphonic results akin to an electric keyboard.”
