Biography
Guitarist Dom Minasi was created March 6, 1943, in NEW YORK, the same delivery date while Wes Montgomery. A mainly self-taught, organic musician, in his youngsters he backed performers and performed his talk about of rock and roll & roll, chapel dances, and little jazz combo gigs beginning at age group 15. As an educator, Minasi got many private college students at a age, while releasing a professional profession with two albums for the Blue Notice label within the mid-’70s. Sadly, this was a period when Blue Notice was being offered, and the business had not been supportive promotionally. Minasi lowered from the documenting picture and freelanced locally for another 15 years, playing sometimes with jazz pianist Dennis Moorman and heading back to college at Lehman University, where he graduated having a level in structure in 1990. By 1993 he was carrying out off-Broadway shows, amid writing almost 300 compositions, dealing with kids in the brand new York public college system, and finding your way through a comeback that could find him reinventing his design improvisationally. Honing expanded methods and advanced harmonic ideas, Minasi also discovered time to compose many books on music disciplines, including improvisation, theory, and chord substitutions, and he continuing performing workshops for children. In 2000 he was back full force, making CDs for CIMP and his unbiased CDM label in tandem along with his wife, vocalist Carol Mennie. Prolonged functions, extrapolations of Duke Ellington’s music, and fearless, 100 % pure improvisational excursions discovered Minasi a fresh audience. A few of his collaborators possess included Michael Jefry Stevens, Blaise Siwula, Ken Filiano, Joe McPhee, Tomas Ulrich, Steve Swell, Borah Bergman, Perry Robinson, Bryan Olson, Matthew Shipp, Jackson Krall, Jon Hemmersam, and John Bollinger. His publication A Singer’s Instruction to Reading Tempo premiered in 2007, and he provides performed on the International Culture for Improvised Music meetings in 2006 (Ann Arbor, MI) and 2007 (Evanston, IL).
