Doky Brothers

The Doky Brothers were a straight-ahead mainstream jazz duo that emerged in the mid-’90s with a set of albums for Blue Notice. The group’s music was right from the hard bop customs from the ’60s, well balanced by flourishes of modern creation and fusion. Natives of Copenhagen, Denmark, pianist Niels Lan Doky (b. Oct 3, 1963) and bassist Chris Minh Doky (b. Feb 7, 1969) will be the product of the musical family members; their dad was your physician who performed classical acoustic guitar, and their mom was a Danish pop vocalist. After spending a year or two playing acoustic guitar, Niels turned to piano at this 11, inspired from the Scott Joplin music that was highlighted in the strike Paul Newman/Robert Redford film The Sting. He steadily became familiar with the main pianists in jazz background, and started playing skillfully at age 13. 2 yrs later, he used trumpeter Thad Jones, who was simply in Denmark leading a huge music group on radio. Between 1981 and 1984, Niels Lan Doky went to Berklee, graduating magna cum laude using a level in professional music. During his amount of time in Boston, he performed with Terri Lyne Carrington, Cyrus Chestnut and Branford Marsalis, among numerous others. Pursuing graduation, he relocated to NY, where he started playing gigs and classes. After using Joe Henderson and Woody Shaw, he documented his debut recording, Right here or There, for Storyville Information. Their eponymous debut for Blue Take note was made by Pederson and highlighted guest performances by trumpeter Randy Brecker, saxophonist Michael Brecker, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, guitarist Ulf Wakenius and vocalist Curtis Stigers. It had been released in 1996 to great reviews and solid product sales. Their second record was also made by Pederson and highlighted guest shows by guitarist John Scofield, harmonica participant Toots Thielemans, saxophonist David Sanborn, saxophonist Costs Evans, and trumpeter Randy Brecker.
