Famed on her behalf girl group-era novelty smash “Red Boot Laces,” young singer Dodie Stevens was created Geraldine Anne Pasquale in Chicago on Feb 17, 1946. Elevated mainly in California’s San Gabriel Valley, as a kid she took performing and dance lessons, with age eight released her debut one “Merry-Go-Round and Circular,” released in the Silver Superstar label and acknowledged to Geri Speed. Within the years to check out she appeared frequently on local tv programs, even though executing on the present Strictly Casual was discovered by Crystalette Information president Carl Uses up, who rechristened the 12-year-old Dodie Stevens. Her initial one for the label, “Green Footwear Laces,” reached number 3 in the Billboard graphs in March of 1959; recognized from your competition because of its daffy spoken verses, the record produced Stevens a superstar, which same calendar year she released her self-titled debut LP on Dot and in addition co-starred within the Don Siegel film Hound-Dog Guy. Two even more LPs — 1960’s On the Rainbow and 1961’s Green Footwear Laces — implemented, as do an appearance within the 1961 feature Convicts Four, but Stevens demonstrated unable to keep her early momentum and retired from executing at 16, engaged and getting married and living on the plantation in Missouri. She came back to music in 1966, afterwards performing with Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’77 and touring being a support vocalist behind Macintosh Davis.
